Message from the Executive Director

What a Year!

Dear GRCDC Families,

What a beautiful way to send off this school year.

Yesterday’s End of Year Celebration was such a powerful reminder of who our children are and what makes this school community so special. The work they shared was thoughtful, layered, creative, brave, and full of meaning. It showed not just what they learned, but how they learned.

And that matters deeply.

At GRCDC, we believe children are rich in potential, strong, and powerful. We believe they are capable of wrestling with big ideas, sitting with complexity, asking better questions, changing their thinking, listening to one another, and making meaning in community. The final product is wonderful, and we celebrate it. But the process- the wondering, revising, disagreeing, trying again, noticing, connecting, and discovering- is where so much of the real learning lives.

That was on full display yesterday.

This year, our children showed us again and again that they can do hard things. They built friendships. They solved problems. They stretched their thinking. They used their many languages to express what they know and who they are. They made their learning visible. They reminded us that joy, curiosity, challenge, and community all belong together.

To our families: thank you. Thank you for choosing this school, for trusting this process, for showing up, for partnering with us, and for helping build the kind of community where children are known, heard, challenged, and loved.

To our staff: thank you for the extraordinary work of holding the conditions for this kind of learning. It is not simple work. It requires attention, patience, creativity, reflection, and deep belief in children. Yesterday was a celebration of the children, yes- but also of the adults who helped create the space for that learning to unfold.

As we head into summer, I hope our students carry with them the knowledge that they are strong, capable, connected, and full of possibility.

Rest. Play. Read. Wonder. Get outside. Be with your people. Notice beautiful things. Ask big questions.

We are so proud of this school year, so proud of our children, and so grateful for this community.
Have a joyful, sunny, "narly" summer!

With gratitude,
Lisa

For Families of CURRENT 1st and 3rd Graders:

Share Your Thinking with Us for 2026-27!
Students moving into 2nd and 4th grade for 2026-27 will begin a two year relationship with a new teacher and some new peers. At GRCDC we design class lists using academic and non- academic needs, demographic data, guidance from your child's current teacher, child input and parent input. Please complete this survey to inform our class list planning for your child entering 2nd or 4th grade in the Fall of 2026-27. These survey responses will be added to other information we use to create a strong learning and growth environment for all learners. Please note: we are not able to honor requests for specific teachers. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Sarah Cooper at coopesar@childdiscoverycenter.org.

Please fill out a survey for each child who will be in 2nd or 4th grade for the 26-27 school year. Class assignments will be communicated via email by August 1. Thank you!

Summer Meet Up ParentSquare Group

A ParentSquare group has been created to help families make connections this summer. Any GRCDC parent can join by following this link. The purpose of the group is to share dates and times for meetups in the GR area so families can hang out together during the summer months. Any parent in the group can create a post about a meet-up, see all comments, and comment on a post. This is a trial run for this type of group and means of communication for families. The group will not be monitored closely by the Admin team or the Family Team. For an overview of how to create a post in the mobile app, please follow this link.
