Assessment and Grading
Grading
Report Cards are “standards based,” giving information about each grade level skill rather than an overall subject grade. The skills listed on the report card have been introduced, taught and formally assessed. Skills are graded on a scale of 1-4 (see below). By the end of the year, the goal is for all students to reach level 3 (Proficient) or above on each standard or skill listed.
In addition to academic content areas, music and physical education skills are also included to reflect the concepts explicitly taught, practiced and observed. Teachers make comments on each student's report card. The comments note observations regarding how each student participates in the classroom community. Comments may include updates on extra instruction in reading, math or social emotional learning that the student may be receiving.
