September Greetings from the Executive Director

Greetings, and welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! Many of us have been busy over the summer preparing for the new year and we are excited that it has finally begun. Our very capable new leadership is in place, our mission is strong, and our vision for the future is compelling. I hope that you will join us in becoming involved this year and making a positive difference in the lives of our children and the future of the CDC. My own work this year will center around two things. The first is streamlining our systems to enable the CDC to operate at maximum efficiency. This will include implementing excellent channels of communication, and updating and documenting our operations and systems. The second area of focus will be developing a healthy and sustainable financial model that will support the CDC into the future and provide us with the resources to execute our mission. Many from the CDC community have volunteered to participate in the Work Groups that will be active this year. Regular updates on the progress of these groups will be available to you throughout the year. The first group to convene will be the Communications Work Group which will establish lines of communication between teachers, parents, students, administration, board, and community. I am passionate about the mission of the GRCDC, and have come to know and love many members of this community over the summer. It is a community of very hard working and dedicated people whom I am honored to join in this very worthy mission. I look forward to working with you in the coming year!

September 7th is just around the corner

It is hard to believe that it is already August. The staff at GRCDC are engaged in the flurry of activites that come with the start of a new school year. Next week, teachers are sending home classroom letters loaded with information that families need to start the school year. Orientation is on Wednesday, September 1st at 2:00, 4:00, or 6:00. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 7th. We look forward to the start of a new year with YOU!

Re-Enrollment Deadline

The April 15th re-enrollment deadline is fast approaching. This is the only way you can ensure that your child has the “first-in-line” preference status. Once the enrollment period is over, enrollment at each grade level will be determined on the basis of the number of seats available in the classroom and the number of applicants for those seats. It is possible that your child will lose his or her seat if we do not receive a re-enrollment application! A PDF version of the application is available here.

Open House and Open Enrollment

The 10th Annual Open House is January 27 from 5:00 PM—6:30 PM in the Gym. The Discoveries (classrooms) will be open from 6:30—7:00 PM for visiting families to tour and have conversations with the teachers and paraprofessionals.

The Purposes of the Open House are:

1. To celebrate the children and families who are presently enrolled.

2. To showcase the work of the children.

3. To kick off enrollment for the next school year, inviting new families to experience an event at the school.

4. To work together as a collaborative system of families and staff.

The open enrollment period is from January 27, 2010 – April 16, 2010. You may pick up an application for enrollment at the Open House, or at the school office after January 27. We hope you can make it to the Open House!
